“The Buzz” is a weekly feature that I’ll be writing that’ll feature gubbins and snippits of news of what’s hot and also what’s not so hot, straight aff the press…
This week features news from Scots royalty The Twilight Sad, teen sensation Nina Nesbitt, the mighty We Were Promised Jetpacks, Fife indie-folks Kid Canaveral and more…
- Tracks from “No One Can ever Know”, the recent album by The Twilight Sad is getting a remix make-over, courtesy of specially selected producers. The album will be released in the UK through FatCat Records on 5th November (remember, remember). They have also today issued dates for their up and coming October tour (no Scottish dates though… boo!!! Just have to wait until December 15th then). Tour dates can be found here.
- Nina Nesbitt continues her rapid rise to fame and is looking forward to the release of her first single proper under Universal Records. The acclaimed Edinburgh singer/songwriter’s single “Boy” will be a collection of four brand-new songs and follows the hugely successful independent release of her last EP “The Apple Tree”. She will be playing Glasgow’s Oran Mor on 9th October as part of her October UK tour. Tickets for all dates are available from her website. ”Boy” will be released on 26th August 2012 and is available to pre-order from ITunes now.
- Stanley Odd have been very busy in recent weeks and the band warmed up for their album launch performances with a beasting set at Belladrum Festival last weekend. As well as recording their video to their new single in Edinburgh’s Voodoo Rooms with some lucky fans, the funky Hip-Hop sextet have released a free download of their track “Get Out Ma Headspace” from their website, giving us a glimpse of what to expect from their upcoming album “Rejects”. Stanley Odd are due to appear at Glasgow’s Stereo Cafe and Edinburgh’s Liquid Rooms on 20th and 21st September respectively.
- Edinburgh’s very own indie superstars, We Were Promised Jetpacks, are jetting off to the States once again, this time playing a free live concert at New York’s Rockafella Centre! The lads have gone global and have built up a massive following both in the USA and Canada. They return to Manhattan following their critically acclaimed appearance at Webster Hall last year.
- Bathgate local hero’s Dead Sea Souls kicked off their ”We Were Always Electric” album launch tour in some style on Saturday with a headline performance at Edinburgh’s Liquid Rooms, supported by John Wean. However, their digital distributors appear to have hit technical issues with the release and the bands label, Big Rock Candy Records are busy trying to rectify the situation. However, a statement from their label states that limited edition CD’s can still be purchased via the bands BandCamp website and a digital copy can be downloaded from ITunes. BRCR have stressed that all other outlets will be up and running shortly. If you fancy checking them out, dates for their upcoming tour can be found on the bands Facebook page.
- Edinburgh rockers A Fight You Can’t Win have released a video teaser for their new single “Shedding Skin/Making Bones”. The teaser shows the band setting up for a gig with some very sinister goings on in the venue… Spooky!!! The band will play Edinburgh’s Wee Red Bar on 31st August.
- Kid Canaveral’s return to Scotland’s capital will help ease fans disappointment after the Fife indie peeps pulled out of their June gig which was to be held in the city’s Wee Red Bar. The band have revealed that tickets purchased for the cancelled performance will now be honoured for their Festival appearance at The Electric Circus on 25th August! You can’t say fairer than that! The band have also finished the recording of their second album and will “be making an announcement in the next couple of months about it all”… what lovely lads they are.
This marks the end of the first “The Buzz…”. Check back soon for more updates and goings on.
